Position Summary:
The Director of Engineering is responsible for overseeing the build and roadmap of the company’s technology infrastructure. Responsibilities include developing and driving the company’s technology infrastructure, data strategy and architecture, collaborating with management to make critical technology decisions, tapping-into best-in-breed available technology platforms, and aligning investments in technology with the company’s vision and stakeholder needs.
The Director of Engineering will be comfortable rolling up their sleeves in continuing to build and expand the core tech stack, while also being able to provide strategic leadership. The incumbent will be an expert in the latest tech/fintech trends, security threats, and have the business acumen necessary to respond to the ever-changing technology landscape.
The ideal candidate will have a diverse experience in building and managing technology products, but a primary focus on financial products (FinTech experience is required). The ideal candidate is responsible for collaborating with stakeholders to set strategy and priorities for the delivery of technology and process improvements.
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned leader who thrives in product design and development, project management, collaboration, and is passionate about building new products and teams. This role reports to the VP of Engineering.
Major Responsibilities:
● Create roadmap for the optimal architecture for digital lending, including a modular approach to internal software development of state-of-the art capabilities
● Assess and implement best-in-class tech and fintech technology services and lead the integration of those technologies into our core platform
● Identify the optimal solutions for data architecture and other support capabilities (e.g., data science, underwriting, etc.)
● Ensure Moneyjet’s technology strategies are aligned with business strategy and the desire for continued growth
● Partner across business units to exceed the standards of availability, scalability and performance that enable business functions
● Participate in and/or lead large initiatives across Technology
● Oversee the Service/Contract/SLA for technology providers
● Independently drive performance and efficiency improvements within assigned scope and across the technology organization
● Manage issues to resolution and adjusting to priority requests to support the Business
● Build strong customer / stakeholder relationships business units and third-party service providers to optimize operational resiliency
● Conduct root cause analysis/post-mortem meetings after impactful incidents for lessons learned and preventive recurrence
● Integrate reports, key performance indicators (KPIs), metrics packages and related information for technology
● Provide support 24/7/365, ensuring fast and effective critical incident management
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
● B.S. degree in Computer Science, Engineering; Master’s degree preferred
● Minimum of 10 years working in a technology/software development role
● Minimum of 5 years managerial experience
● Experience in web based platforms
● Prior experience with micro services architecture and containerization
● Experience in API design and development
● Extensive experience in cloud environment, preferably AWS
● Prior experience and ability to manage and optimize cloud bill and budget (FinOps)
● Experience with SOC2 certification and Compliance
● Hands on in the sense of ability to read and understand code, system design and architecture
● Experience in technology evaluation, selection and price negotiation
● Experience managing budgets and business-planning
● Strategic thinking and ability to develop and execute strategy
● Strong technology knowledge, especially relating to cloud-based platforms and mobile-based applications
● Excellent communication skills
● Strong collaborator with able to build and scale a team based on business objectives
● Problem-solving aptitude
Preferred Experience:
● Prior experience building FinTech infrastructure
● Prior experience developing technology for small business lending
