Director of Engineering

Team-Building Architecture Collaboration
Our engineering team prioritizes creating excellent systems via rapid iterations, collaboration, and peer review. We are looking for a Director of Engineering who will actively mentor and contribute to the personal development of their team. You get just as excited seeing others grow and learn under your leadership as you do by executing the work yourself. You seek to improve standard practices and cultivate a culture of excellence. Most importantly, you'll work with a diverse group of people and collaborate to create the best solutions for Atticus and our clients.

We’re looking for a Director of Engineering to join Atticus. This person will focus on leading a highly skilled team of cross-functional frontend and backend engineers focused on building a highly performant, intuitive and secure client experience on the web for Atticus clients.

What You'll Do:

Help your team design, build and operate Atticus’ APIs with a focus on performance and reliability

Evaluate storage technologies and methodologies with an eye toward scalability and performance

Architect, design, review, and test code in a collaborative environment with other software engineers.

Leverage your team as multipliers for your skills to create excellent products and services

Train other technical leaders on the team to do as you do.

About You:

You’ve been leading engineering teams for 5+ years.

You love fostering career growth and building a strong team culture.

You proactively identify problems and opportunities and generate creative approaches to solve them.

You enjoy working collaboratively with a Director of Product and other Product managers to build and maintain a backlog of work for a team of engineers.

You can effectively plan engineering projects with ambitious timelines and advocate for efficient solutions to accomplishing them

You understand that celebrating accomplishments is just as important as looking for ways to improve.

You have experience managing multiple Engineering teams.

You have written idiomatic JavaScript/Node.js or Golang; Java, Python, Scala, or Ruby.

You can and have lead teams’ technical efforts to deliver and support large software systems

You know how to review code and deliver feedback

You are deeply committed to end user experience and jump at the chance to improve that experience.

You use objective judgment in leveraging the right frameworks and technologies

You are versed in cloud computing systems (GCP, AWS, etc.) and SAAS concepts

You’ve built modern, resilient and operationally sane systems exemplifying industry standards (HTTP REST, GraphQL, Stream processing, Big Data)

You’ve leveraged continuous integration systems to their full extent (CircleCI, Bamboo, Jenkins, TravisCI)

You’ve planned for, built, evolved and scrutinized monitoring and alerting for your production systems

You know best practices for deploying, troubleshooting, and maintaining systems in production

Nice to Have:

Experience with Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes, Docker, CircleCI, Git, Golang, Java

Experience with GraphQL, GraphQL Federation, REST APIs and supporting network protocols

Experience with a distributed SQL platform like CockroachDB or Google Spanner

Experience with Hadoop, MapReduce, or other “Big Data” systems

Experience with React or TypeScript

We offer competitive pay — including equity, bonus, and generous benefits:

We anticipate the base salary band for this role will be between $200,000 to $275,000 in addition to equity and benefits. The salary at offer will be determined by a number of factors such as candidate’s experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity among our team.

Location

This job is fully remote and we’re committed to empowering everyone with flexibility. Live wherever, work remotely, and travel to LA (on the company dime) as needed to be with your colleagues —somewhere between quarterly and yearly. We care a lot about building a great culture and we think some interactions need to happen in person, so we put a lot of thought into retreats, offsites, and other ways to gather.
